Metal Detecting Makes a Great Hobby

If you like being outside and have always had the fascination of finding a treasure or something of value than I would sincerely suggest the hobby of metal detecting. Starting out its not too expensive, a quality metal detector will run around three hundred dollars . It should be able to detect metal coins up to a foot underground. 


An idea to increase your chance of finding some treasure is to look through old newspapers or maybe town records. This way you can find out where large crowds met for social events years ago. Old abandoned churches and schoolhouses are good places to start. The chances of finding older coins are a lot better when you're away from areas used during recent years. Another good way to learn about good locations to use is to ask some elderly people. They may have a good ides where the local hang outs were. 


Another way of gaining access to old properties is to just openly ask the owner's permission. There are old houses in every town that are full of history. Tell them about your metal detecting hobby and explain that you will split they money you have gained by any findings, usually people are happy to let you on their grounds.  


Metal detecting is not only a great hobby, but it can be a source of extra income for some of those whose luck seems to run well. Nobody can know for sure where a gold ring was lost decades ago by a new bride, or where a coin fell out of the pocket of a boy bouncing over the ground being pulled by horse and wagon.  


By using a metal detector, at some point, you will find some of those old coins, possibly a ring or lost bracelet. You will feel that great excitement everytime you discover a treasure lost beneath a few inches of soil.
